  • Description

The Victorian Arrow Weathervane, finished in polished copper, is a beautiful and unique addition to any roof. The Victorian arrow is fully functional, spinning in the wind to point in the direction of the breeze. The weathervane was created to complement the look of a roof and comes with a half round ridge fitting

The weathervane has an overall height of 30.7" (78cm). The ridge tile footprint is 10" (24cm) across, 12" (30cm) in length, and 8" (20.5cm) in height. While terracotta is the default colour for the ridge tile fitting, we do offer a variety of other colours and finishes.

This Victorian arrow weathervane does not require brackets for installation. Because of the potential for water damage, roofers are often hesitant to drill holes or install brackets in roofs. The assembly of this weather vane is easy and intuitive. Mortar is used to attach the fitting to the roof in the traditional way and also as an optional extra metal strap is included for mechanical fix. The resilient and adaptable strap can be unwound, cut to size, and fastened to the roof with screws, nails, or any other method deemed necessary. For added peace of mind and stability, the metal strap can be hidden from view during the traditional mortar bed ridge base installation.

The roofs of gable end homes, hip end homes, cottages, sheds, workshops, and even summer houses are all suitable for mounting these Victorian arrow ridge weathervanes. Furthermore, their adaptability makes them suitable for use as garden decorations. Putting this weathervane on your roof is a great way to make a bold design statement and add a unique focal point to your home's exterior.

  • How to fit and install

There are several ways to install roof finials, as outlined below:

    Traditional mortar bedding:

Roof finials can be installed following the same method used for ridge tiles, utilising standard mortar bedding. In cases where the finial is tall or heavy, or if enhanced stability is desired, an additional mechanical fix method can be employed alongside the mortar bed installation.

Mechanical fixing strap and mortar bedding:

For this type of install, a galvanized metal strap is included, discreetly fastened to the underside of the finial ridge base during manufacturing. This durable and flexible metal strap can be adjusted in length by cutting it down to size. Featuring a series of holes, the strap can be screwed, nailed, or embedded in mortar to anchor it to a section of the roof structure. After securing the metal strap, installers can conceal it from sight by applying traditional mortar bed. The mortar used to join the finial with adjacent ridge tiles effectively conceals the strap, resulting in a seamless and neat appearance.

    Dry fixing:

Another approach to affixing finials to the roof involves the dry fixing method. This technique involves using a specific manufacturer's dry fixing system, typically incorporating brackets or alternative mechanical fasteners to attach ridge tiles and finials to the roof without the use of mortar. If you are considering a dry fix ridge system, please get in touch with us to determine if this finial design can be adapted to be compatible with your chosen system.
