Spitfire weathervane fitted to a square ridge tile cap
- Description
Designed to rest atop a square ridge tile cap, this steel Spitfire weathervane will make a bold and eye catching addition to your roof. Its sturdy steel construction means it looks great while also serving as an aesthetic accent. The Spitfire spins in the wind, pointing in the direction the breeze is blowing. The spitfire was one of the great aircraft in World War 2
The 33.5 inch (85-centimetre) height of this item will command attention on your roof. The 12" (30cm) square ridge tile cap fitting comes in standard terracotta, it has a height of 11" (28cm). We also offer other colours and finishes to choose from.
Some might wonder why a bracket isn't just used instead when thinking about mounting options. The key is ensuring that your roof is completely watertight at all times and this is a convenient alternative. By making holes and fastening brackets to the roof, you run the risk of letting water in. This Spitfire weather vane, on the other hand, requires minimal effort and time to set up. The square ridge tile cap requires only mortar for installation, we also provide a mechanical fix in the form of a metal strap, but that is entirely optional. This strap is strong and adaptable, so you can trim it to fit your needs and then nail or screw it to your roof. The metal strap can be hidden during the traditional mortar installation of the ridge base, resulting in a seamless and secure fit that gives builders peace of mind and stability.
Square roofs, double hip roofs, pyramid roofs, tower roofs, and flat roofs are all suitable for these Spitfire ridge weathervane installations. In addition to being useful as roofing materials, they can also serve as attractive garden accents. These weathervanes are a great option for anyone looking to improve the curb appeal of their home or garden by adding an eye catching focal point or interesting detail.
- How to fit and install
There are several ways to install roof finials, as outlined below:
Traditional mortar bedding:
Roof finials can be installed following the same method used for ridge tiles, utilising standard mortar bedding. In cases where the finial is tall or heavy, or if enhanced stability is desired, an additional mechanical fix method can be employed alongside the mortar bed installation.
Mechanical fixing strap and mortar bedding:
For this type of install, a galvanized metal strap is included, discreetly fastened to the underside of the finial ridge base during manufacturing. This durable and flexible metal strap can be adjusted in length by cutting it down to size. Featuring a series of holes, the strap can be screwed, nailed, or embedded in mortar to anchor it to a section of the roof structure. After securing the metal strap, installers can conceal it from sight by applying traditional mortar bed. The mortar used to join the finial with adjacent ridge tiles effectively conceals the strap, resulting in a seamless and neat appearance.
Dry fixing:
Another approach to affixing finials to the roof involves the dry fixing method. This technique involves using a specific manufacturer's dry fixing system, typically incorporating brackets or alternative mechanical fasteners to attach ridge tiles and finials to the roof without the use of mortar. If you are considering a dry fix ridge system, please get in touch with us to determine if this finial design can be adapted to be compatible with your chosen system.
