Sailboat weathervane fixed on a half round roof ridge
- Description
This weathervane depicting a sailboat is made from copper and comes initially with a polished copper finish that will weather naturally and gracefully and will elevate the look of any rooftop. This weathervane, intended for installation on roof structure and or as part of a decorative display, serves both decorative and aesthetic purposes. The wind turns the sailboat, which is a charming visual indicator of the wind's direction.
This sailboat weathervane stands at 33.5" (85cm) in height. The ridge's profile is half round and measures 10" (24cm) in width, 12" (30cm) in length, and 8" (20.5cm) in height.
Why not just use a bracket to mount the weathervane, instead? The importance of keeping a roof in good repair is the key. Installers often think twice before making holes in roofs or installing brackets inside of roof voids. This sailboat weathervane, on the other hand, has an easy installation process. The roof is perfectly accommodated by this fitting, which can be installed quickly and securely with mortar. An additional mechanical fix in the form of a metal strap can be used if desired. This adjustable strap has multiple mounting holes, so you can use it with screws, nails, or anything else you need to keep it in place. When the ridge base is in place, the mortar can be used to cover the metal strap. This extra feature ensures that the installation goes smoothly and without a hitch.
These sailboat ridge weathervanes are versatile and can be mounted on a variety of roof styles. This includes gable ends, hip ends, homes, cottages, sheds, workshops, and summer homes. In addition to being useful as roofing material, these tiles can also be used as decorative garden accents. These weathervanes are the ideal way to decorate any roof with intricate detail and a fascinating new accent.
- How to fit and install
There are several ways to install roof finials, as outlined below:
Traditional mortar bedding:
Roof finials can be installed following the same method used for ridge tiles, utilising standard mortar bedding. In cases where the finial is tall or heavy, or if enhanced stability is desired, an additional mechanical fix method can be employed alongside the mortar bed installation.
Mechanical fixing strap and mortar bedding:
For this type of install, a galvanized metal strap is included, discreetly fastened to the underside of the finial ridge base during manufacturing. This durable and flexible metal strap can be adjusted in length by cutting it down to size. Featuring a series of holes, the strap can be screwed, nailed, or embedded in mortar to anchor it to a section of the roof structure. After securing the metal strap, installers can conceal it from sight by applying traditional mortar bed. The mortar used to join the finial with adjacent ridge tiles effectively conceals the strap, resulting in a seamless and neat appearance.
Dry fixing:
Another approach to affixing finials to the roof involves the dry fixing method. This technique involves using a specific manufacturer's dry fixing system, typically incorporating brackets or alternative mechanical fasteners to attach ridge tiles and finials to the roof without the use of mortar. If you are considering a dry fix ridge system, please get in touch with us to determine if this finial design can be adapted to be compatible with your chosen system.
