Pig weathervane suppied with a double arch 45 degree ridge tile
- Description
This steel pig weathervane comes with a double arch ridge tile and is made of sturdy steel. It provides the opportunity to embellish the roof with a striking and distinctive pig finial ornament. Functioning as a fully operational weathervane, the pig rotates with the wind, indicating its direction. The standard ridge tile fitting is available in terracotta colour but alternative colours and finishes are also available
With an overall height of 34" (86cm), the ridge base is a 45 degree angle ridge, measuring 12" (296mm) in length and 9" (225mm) in width.
Why opt for the weathervane together with the ridge tile?
The integrity of the roof structure and its resistance to rainwater are a concern when it comes to installing a bracket as part of the roof structure, often deterring installers from drilling holes and affixing brackets either on or within the roof space. Incorporating this pig weathervane circumvents these issues by facilitating a straightforward and hassle free installation. The ridge fitting can be bedded onto the roof using mortar, additionally there is an optional mechanical fix in the form of a metal strap. This flexible strap can be cut to size and features a series of holes for screwing, nailing, or fastening it securely to the roof structure. Installers can later conceal the metal strap as they apply traditional mortar to fix the ridge base
Customers have the versatility to install these pig ridge weathervanes on various roof types, such as gable ends, hip ends, houses, cottages, sheds, workshops, and summer houses. Its adaptability extends to ornamental use within the garden. This weathervane serves as an ideal means to infuse the roof with captivating detail and a distinctive focal point.
- How to fit and install
There are several ways to install roof finials, as outlined below:
Traditional mortar bedding:
Roof finials can be installed following the same method used for ridge tiles, utilising standard mortar bedding. In cases where the finial is tall or heavy, or if enhanced stability is desired, an additional mechanical fix method can be employed alongside the mortar bed installation.
Mechanical fixing strap and mortar bedding:
For this type of install, a galvanized metal strap is included, discreetly fastened to the underside of the finial ridge base during manufacturing. This durable and flexible metal strap can be adjusted in length by cutting it down to size. Featuring a series of holes, the strap can be screwed, nailed, or embedded in mortar to anchor it to a section of the roof structure. After securing the metal strap, installers can conceal it from sight by applying traditional mortar bed. The mortar used to join the finial with adjacent ridge tiles effectively conceals the strap, resulting in a seamless and neat appearance.
Dry fixing:
Another approach to affixing finials to the roof involves the dry fixing method. This technique involves using a specific manufacturer's dry fixing system, typically incorporating brackets or alternative mechanical fasteners to attach ridge tiles and finials to the roof without the use of mortar. If you are considering a dry fix ridge system, please get in touch with us to determine if this finial design can be adapted to be compatible with your chosen system.
