Motorbike weathervane mounted on a half round roof tile
- Description
An exquisite and unique ornament, this copper verdigris motorbike weathervane is mounted on a half round roof tile. The motorbike weathervane is fully functional, gracefully rotating in the wind to indicate the direction of the wind. The weathervane adds visual appeal to the roof and serves a functional purpose as well.
The overall height of the weathervane is 26.3 inches (67 cm), and its half round ridge base measures 10 inches (24 cm) in width, 12 inches (30 cm) in length, and 8 inches (20.5 cm) in height.
This weathervane is a great addition to the roof:
It's understandable to be wary of drilling holes in your roof or securing brackets inside your attic in order to set up your weathervane. This motorcycle themed weathervane, however, requires minimal effort to set up. The tile, which is half round, can be easily and securely installed on the roof with mortar. The metal strap that comes with the weathervane can also be used as a mechanical fix fitting. This sturdy yet malleable strap has a number of predrilled holes that make it easy to fasten it to the roof via screws, nails, or other fasteners. After the metal strap is fastened in place, it can be hidden beneath the mortar bed used to set the ridge tile. Having this metal strap around gives you peace of mind and helps ensure a secure installation.
These motorbike ridge weathervanes can be mounted on the ridge of a gable, hip, or hipped roof, as well as the ridge of a house, cottage, shed, workshop, or summerhouse. Moreover, it can be used as an ornamental piece in garden setups thanks to its adaptability. Putting this weathervane on your roof is a great way to draw attention to your home and add an intriguing design element.
- How to fit and install
There are several ways to install roof finials, as outlined below:
Traditional mortar bedding:
Roof finials can be installed following the same method used for ridge tiles, utilising standard mortar bedding. In cases where the finial is tall or heavy, or if enhanced stability is desired, an additional mechanical fix method can be employed alongside the mortar bed installation.
Mechanical fixing strap and mortar bedding:
For this type of install, a galvanized metal strap is included, discreetly fastened to the underside of the finial ridge base during manufacturing. This durable and flexible metal strap can be adjusted in length by cutting it down to size. Featuring a series of holes, the strap can be screwed, nailed, or embedded in mortar to anchor it to a section of the roof structure. After securing the metal strap, installers can conceal it from sight by applying traditional mortar bed. The mortar used to join the finial with adjacent ridge tiles effectively conceals the strap, resulting in a seamless and neat appearance.
Dry fixing:
Another approach to affixing finials to the roof involves the dry fixing method. This technique involves using a specific manufacturer's dry fixing system, typically incorporating brackets or alternative mechanical fasteners to attach ridge tiles and finials to the roof without the use of mortar. If you are considering a dry fix ridge system, please get in touch with us to determine if this finial design can be adapted to be compatible with your chosen system.
