Labrador weathervane supplied on a double arch 45 degree ridge tile
- Description
This labrador weathervane, affixed on a double arch ridge tile, offers a distinctive and captivating embellishment for your rooftop. Crafted from robust steel, this weathervane provides both aesthetic charm and functional significance. With its fully operational design, the labrador figure gracefully turns with the wind, indicating the prevailing wind direction.
The ridge tile fitting is provided in a classic terracotta colour by default, there are also various other colours and finishes available to suit your preferences.
With an impressive overall height of 39 inches (99cm), and a ridge base with a 45 degree angle with dimensions of 12 inches (296mm) in length and 9 inches (225mm) in width, this labrador weathervane adds an eye catching focal point to your roofline.
Why opt for the weathervane with a ridge tile rather than a bracket? Installing brackets can potentially compromise the roof's integrity by requiring holes and attachments that could affect its water resistance. The labrador weathervane's installation, on the other hand, is straightforward. Utilising mortar, the fitting can be seamlessly integrated onto the roof. For added stability, an optional mechanical fix fitting in the form of a versatile metal strap is provided. This strong and flexible strap can be customised by cutting it to the desired size. It features an array of holes, allowing it to be affixed using screws, nails, or other securing methods to the roof's structure. As the ridge base is installed using traditional mortar, the metal strap can be discreetly concealed by the installer, ensuring a neat install.
These labrador ridge weathervanes are compatible with a variety of roof types, including gable ends, hip ends, houses, cottages, sheds, workshops, and summer houses. Furthermore, their versatility extends beyond rooftops, as they can also be installed ornamentally within your garden. Elevate the visual allure of your property by introducing this charming and intricate detail to your roofscape.
- How to fit and install
There are several ways to install roof finials, as outlined below:
Traditional mortar bedding:
Roof finials can be installed following the same method used for ridge tiles, utilising standard mortar bedding. In cases where the finial is tall or heavy, or if enhanced stability is desired, an additional mechanical fix method can be employed alongside the mortar bed installation.
Mechanical fixing strap and mortar bedding:
For this type of install, a galvanized metal strap is included, discreetly fastened to the underside of the finial ridge base during manufacturing. This durable and flexible metal strap can be adjusted in length by cutting it down to size. Featuring a series of holes, the strap can be screwed, nailed, or embedded in mortar to anchor it to a section of the roof structure. After securing the metal strap, installers can conceal it from sight by applying traditional mortar bed. The mortar used to join the finial with adjacent ridge tiles effectively conceals the strap, resulting in a seamless and neat appearance.
Dry fixing:
Another approach to affixing finials to the roof involves the dry fixing method. This technique involves using a specific manufacturer's dry fixing system, typically incorporating brackets or alternative mechanical fasteners to attach ridge tiles and finials to the roof without the use of mortar. If you are considering a dry fix ridge system, please get in touch with us to determine if this finial design can be adapted to be compatible with your chosen system.
