  • Description

This steel hunting weathervane is affixed to a double arch ridge tile, serving as a striking and unique steel weathervane. It offers the opportunity to introduce a captivating and distinctive finial ornamentation to the roofline. This functional weathervane allows the hunting figure to pivot with the wind, indicating its direction. The ridge tile base comes in a standard terracotta colour, alternative colours and finishes are also available

With an overall height of 39 inches (99cm), the ridge base is set at a 45 degree angle and measures 12 inches (296mm) in length and 9 inches (225mm) in width.

Wondering why not simply mount the weathervane using a bracket? The answer lies in the need to safeguard the roof against rainwater infiltration. The prospect of drilling holes and affixing brackets onto or within the roof structure can deter installers. The installation process for this hunting weathervane, however, is uncomplicated and straightforward. The ridge tile can be securely positioned using mortar, facilitating a hassle free and seamless setup. Additionally, the weathervane offers an optional mechanical fixing mechanism in the form of a metal strap. This robust and flexible strap can be cut to size by uncoiling it, and it features an array of holes, allowing for screwing, nailing, or secure fastening to a section of the roof. Installers can discreetly conceal the metal strap during the ridge base installation, giving a neat finish

The hunting ridge weathervanes can be installed on a variety of roof types, including gable ends, hip ends, houses, cottages, sheds, workshops, and summer houses. Its versatility extends to garden placement for ornamental purposes. This weathervane offers an ideal means to introduce intricacy and captivating detailing to the roofline, enhancing its visual appeal.

  • How to fit and install

There are several ways to install roof finials, as outlined below:

    Traditional mortar bedding:

Roof finials can be installed following the same method used for ridge tiles, utilising standard mortar bedding. In cases where the finial is tall or heavy, or if enhanced stability is desired, an additional mechanical fix method can be employed alongside the mortar bed installation.

Mechanical fixing strap and mortar bedding:

For this type of install, a galvanized metal strap is included, discreetly fastened to the underside of the finial ridge base during manufacturing. This durable and flexible metal strap can be adjusted in length by cutting it down to size. Featuring a series of holes, the strap can be screwed, nailed, or embedded in mortar to anchor it to a section of the roof structure. After securing the metal strap, installers can conceal it from sight by applying traditional mortar bed. The mortar used to join the finial with adjacent ridge tiles effectively conceals the strap, resulting in a seamless and neat appearance.

    Dry fixing:

Another approach to affixing finials to the roof involves the dry fixing method. This technique involves using a specific manufacturer's dry fixing system, typically incorporating brackets or alternative mechanical fasteners to attach ridge tiles and finials to the roof without the use of mortar. If you are considering a dry fix ridge system, please get in touch with us to determine if this finial design can be adapted to be compatible with your chosen system.
