Horse weathervane supplied on a double arch 45 degree ridge tile
- Description
Featuring a double arch 45 degree ridge tile, this exquisite copper verdigris horse weathervane is a one of a kind addition to any roof. This weathervane, with genuine copper verdigris weathering is both aesthetically pleasing and functional as it turns in response to the wind, pointing in the direction from which it is blowing. The ridge tile fitting can be made in a variety of colours in addition to the standard terracotta colour.
The ridge base of this weathervane, which is 37.5 inches (95 cm) in height and 12 inches (296 mm) in length and 9 inches (225 mm) in width, features a 45 degree angle.
You could use a bracket to mount the weathervane, but why complicate things? The solution lies in ensuring the roof remains watertight. Not all installers are comfortable making holes in roofs or permanently fastening brackets inside of them. This horse weathervane, on the other hand, is an easy way to fix the problem. A double arch 45 degree ridge tile can be safely installed on the roof with mortar, making the installation process easier and stress free. The weathervane can be mechanically fixed in place using the included flexible metal strap for extra security and convenience. This strap's pre drilled holes make it simple to secure it to the roof using screws, nails, or any other fasteners of your choosing. After it is fastened, the metal strap can be hidden from sight during the standard mortar bed installation of the ridge base
Customers can choose to decorate a variety of buildings with these horse ridge weathervanes, including those with gable ends, hip ends, houses, cottages, sheds, workshops, and summer houses. In addition, they can be strategically placed as garden ornaments, bringing a unique and eye catching flair to any outdoor space. Whether you want to decorate your roof or garden, this weathervane can be used in either setting.
- How to fit and install
There are several ways to install roof finials, as outlined below:
Traditional mortar bedding:
Roof finials can be installed following the same method used for ridge tiles, utilising standard mortar bedding. In cases where the finial is tall or heavy, or if enhanced stability is desired, an additional mechanical fix method can be employed alongside the mortar bed installation.
Mechanical fixing strap and mortar bedding:
For this type of install, a galvanized metal strap is included, discreetly fastened to the underside of the finial ridge base during manufacturing. This durable and flexible metal strap can be adjusted in length by cutting it down to size. Featuring a series of holes, the strap can be screwed, nailed, or embedded in mortar to anchor it to a section of the roof structure. After securing the metal strap, installers can conceal it from sight by applying traditional mortar bed. The mortar used to join the finial with adjacent ridge tiles effectively conceals the strap, resulting in a seamless and neat appearance.
Dry fixing:
Another approach to affixing finials to the roof involves the dry fixing method. This technique involves using a specific manufacturer's dry fixing system, typically incorporating brackets or alternative mechanical fasteners to attach ridge tiles and finials to the roof without the use of mortar. If you are considering a dry fix ridge system, please get in touch with us to determine if this finial design can be adapted to be compatible with your chosen system.
