  • Description

Mounting this copper verdigris horse weathervane is a breeze with the square ridge tile capping. The verdigris weathering on the copper makes this weathervane more than just a practical addition to your roof; it also makes it an eye catching focal point. The horse weathervane works perfectly, spinning in the wind to point in the right direction.

It stands at an impressive 32.5 inches (84cm) tall and is perched atop a square ridge base that measures 12 inches (30cm) by 12 inches (30cm) by 11 inches (28cm) in height.

This horse weathervane can be installed without the need for brackets, which means you won't have to drill holes in your roof or clutter up your attic with unsightly brackets. The mortared installation of the square roof tile capping ensures a quick and simple roofing job. The metal strap used for the mechanical fix fitting is an additional feature of the weathervane. You can unwind this sturdy yet adaptable strap and cut it to size. It can be screwed, nailed, or otherwise fastened to the roof thanks to its many holes. Once the metal strap is in place, it can be hidden beneath the mortar bed used to set the ridge. The installation process is made easier with the help of this metal strap.

Square roofs, double hip roofs, pyramid roofs, tower roofs, and even flat roofs are all suitable for mounting one of these horse ridge weathervanes. And because of their adaptability, they can be used as decorative elements in outdoor spaces. Putting this weathervane on your roof is a great way to draw attention to your home and show off its intricate details.

  • How to fit and install

There are several ways to install roof finials, as outlined below:

    Traditional mortar bedding:

Roof finials can be installed following the same method used for ridge tiles, utilising standard mortar bedding. In cases where the finial is tall or heavy, or if enhanced stability is desired, an additional mechanical fix method can be employed alongside the mortar bed installation.

Mechanical fixing strap and mortar bedding:

For this type of install, a galvanized metal strap is included, discreetly fastened to the underside of the finial ridge base during manufacturing. This durable and flexible metal strap can be adjusted in length by cutting it down to size. Featuring a series of holes, the strap can be screwed, nailed, or embedded in mortar to anchor it to a section of the roof structure. After securing the metal strap, installers can conceal it from sight by applying traditional mortar bed. The mortar used to join the finial with adjacent ridge tiles effectively conceals the strap, resulting in a seamless and neat appearance.

    Dry fixing:

Another approach to affixing finials to the roof involves the dry fixing method. This technique involves using a specific manufacturer's dry fixing system, typically incorporating brackets or alternative mechanical fasteners to attach ridge tiles and finials to the roof without the use of mortar. If you are considering a dry fix ridge system, please get in touch with us to determine if this finial design can be adapted to be compatible with your chosen system.
