Gun down hunting weathervane supplied on a square ridge tile
- Description
A striking and unique roof ornament, this steel gun down hunting weathervane features a square ridge tile. It is a fully functional weathervane in addition to being a beautiful addition to your roof. The gun down hunting design spins in the wind, showing the wind direction. Although terracotta is the most common colour for this ridge tile fitting, we also provide it in a number of other colours and styles.
This weathervane is an impressive addition to any roofline, with its overall height of 34.2" (87cm), square ridge base measuring 12" (30cm) x 12" (30cm), and height of 11" (28cm).
Rather than using a bracket, why not go with this gun down hunting weathervane on a ridge base?
This weather vane requires minimal effort and time to install. Using the included fitting, a square ridge tile, eliminates the need to make holes in your roof or install brackets on the inside of your home. The ridge tile on your roof can be installed quickly and easily with mortar, guaranteeing a tight and watertight seal. Additionally, a mechanical fix fitting in the form of a metal strap is available for those who prefer it for its increased stability. This durable and adaptable strap has a number of predrilled holes that make it easy to fasten it to the roof with screws, nails, or other fasteners. The metal strap, once securely fastened, can be hidden during the traditional mortar installation of the ridge base. This extra measure ensures a steady setup and gives you peace of mind.
Customers have the option of installing these weathervanes on a variety of roof shapes, including but not limited to square, double hip, pyramid, tower, and flat roofs. In addition, they can serve as a decorative element in the yard. You can use this weathervane in a variety of ways, whether you want to put it on your roof or in your garden.
- How to fit and install
There are several ways to install roof finials, as outlined below:
Traditional mortar bedding:
Roof finials can be installed following the same method used for ridge tiles, utilising standard mortar bedding. In cases where the finial is tall or heavy, or if enhanced stability is desired, an additional mechanical fix method can be employed alongside the mortar bed installation.
Mechanical fixing strap and mortar bedding:
For this type of install, a galvanized metal strap is included, discreetly fastened to the underside of the finial ridge base during manufacturing. This durable and flexible metal strap can be adjusted in length by cutting it down to size. Featuring a series of holes, the strap can be screwed, nailed, or embedded in mortar to anchor it to a section of the roof structure. After securing the metal strap, installers can conceal it from sight by applying traditional mortar bed. The mortar used to join the finial with adjacent ridge tiles effectively conceals the strap, resulting in a seamless and neat appearance.
Dry fixing:
Another approach to affixing finials to the roof involves the dry fixing method. This technique involves using a specific manufacturer's dry fixing system, typically incorporating brackets or alternative mechanical fasteners to attach ridge tiles and finials to the roof without the use of mortar. If you are considering a dry fix ridge system, please get in touch with us to determine if this finial design can be adapted to be compatible with your chosen system.
