  • Description

    Unique and eye catching, this flying pig weathervane is made of copper verdigris and mounted on a square ridge tile. Its copper construction and lovely verdigris patina give the piece a special air of distinction. The flying pig on the weathervane will rotate in the direction of the wind, making the roof look better and providing useful information at the same time.

    Standard terracotta in colour, the square ridge tile fitting can be used to make a striking and unique finial. We also offer a variety of other colours and finishes if these don't suit your needs. The weathervane has an overall height of 33 inches (87 cm) and the ridge base measures 12 inches (30 cm) on all sides and 11 inches (28 cm) in height.

    This flying pig weathervane requires no brackets so installation is quick and easy. When mortar is used to install the square ridge tile fitting on the roof, a watertight seal is created. The metal strap that comes with the weathervane can also be used as an optional mechanical fix fitting. This adjustable strap can be cut to fit, then secured to the roof with nails or screws. When the ridge base is set in place with the conventional mortar bed, the metal strap can be hidden out of sight, providing stability and peace of mind during the installation process.

    Square roofs, double hip roofs, pyramid roofs, tower roofs, and even flat roofs are all suitable for mounting one of these flying pig ridge weathervanes. They are so adaptable that you can even use them as decorations in your garden! This flying pig weathervane is an excellent option if you want to spruce up your roof or make a statement in your garden.

  • How to fit and install

    There are several ways to install roof finials, as outlined below:

    Traditional mortar bedding:

    Roof finials can be installed following the same method used for ridge tiles, utilising standard mortar bedding. In cases where the finial is tall or heavy, or if enhanced stability is desired, an additional mechanical fix method can be employed alongside the mortar bed installation.

    Mechanical fixing strap and mortar bedding:

    For this type of install, a galvanized metal strap is included, discreetly fastened to the underside of the finial ridge base during manufacturing. This durable and flexible metal strap can be adjusted in length by cutting it down to size. Featuring a series of holes, the strap can be screwed, nailed, or embedded in mortar to anchor it to a section of the roof structure. After securing the metal strap, installers can conceal it from sight by applying traditional mortar bed. The mortar used to join the finial with adjacent ridge tiles effectively conceals the strap, resulting in a seamless and neat appearance.

    Dry fixing:

    Another approach to affixing finials to the roof involves the dry fixing method. This technique involves using a specific manufacturer's dry fixing system, typically incorporating brackets or alternative mechanical fasteners to attach ridge tiles and finials to the roof without the use of mortar.     Delivery days are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Fridays. Sometimes if the delivery is local to our Workshop we may also opt to deliver using our own transport

    We make all products to order so there is a lead time associated for manufacturing, curing time and delivery. If you order multiples of the same product, need colour matched or special order items please allow extra lead time. If there are extreme weather events or other circumstances beyond our control this may affect the lead time

  • Product Performance & Quality

    The ridge tile is British Kitemarked, which is a certified industry standard for quality. All products are made in accordance with British Standard versions (BS EN 490: 2004 and BS EN 491: 2004). The ridge fitting is made from a concrete based mix reinforced with small fiberglass strands and additives, with several top coats applied to give its final appearance. The colour of the finial runs all the way through the piece resulting in a strong and long lasting product
