  • Description

This steel fish weathervane is a great addition to any roof because it serves a practical purpose and looks great. It is very easy to put up, so you can easily make your roof look better. This weathervane is made of strong steel and has a fish design that turns gracefully with the wind to show which way the wind is blowing.

The weathervane is fixed to a half round ridge tile, giving your roof a unique and eye catching finishing touch when installed. The standard colour of the ridge tile fitting is terracotta, but it can also be made in a number of other colours and finishes to suit your tastes.

With an overall height of 30.5" (76cm) and a half-round ridge base measuring 10" (24cm) in width, 12" (30cm) in length, and 8" (20.5cm) in height, this weathervane is the right size to make a statement without taking over the look of your roof.

Why go through the trouble of putting a bracket on a weathervane? We know that drilling holes in the roof and putting brackets on the roof or inside the roof space can be a worry because it could weaken the roof and cause leaks. But our fish weathervane is easy to put up and doesn't require any special tools.

The fitting is a half round ridge tile that can be easily put on the roof with mortar. This makes for a secure and easy to install connection. We also offer a metal strap that can be used as an optional mechanical fix fitting. This strong but flexible strap can be unwound and cut to size so that the weathervane can be securely attached to a part of the roof. It has a number of holes that can be used to screw, nail, or otherwise hold it in place. Once the metal strap is firmly in place, you can hide it by putting the ridge base in place using traditional mortar. This keeps the roof looking clean and smooth.

Our fish ridge weathervane is versatile and can be put on many different types of roofs, like gable ends, hip ends, houses, cottages, sheds, workshops, and even summer houses. Also, because of its decorative shape, it can be used in gardens to add a bit of detail and interest to your outdoor space.

This beautiful steel fish weathervane is an easy way to make your roof look better. It's not only useful because it shows the weather, but it's also interesting and will catch the eye of anyone who walks by.

  • How to fit and install

There are several ways to install roof finials, as outlined below:

    Traditional mortar bedding:

Roof finials can be installed following the same method used for ridge tiles, utilising standard mortar bedding. In cases where the finial is tall or heavy, or if enhanced stability is desired, an additional mechanical fix method can be employed alongside the mortar bed installation.

Mechanical fixing strap and mortar bedding:

For this type of install, a galvanized metal strap is included, discreetly fastened to the underside of the finial ridge base during manufacturing. This durable and flexible metal strap can be adjusted in length by cutting it down to size. Featuring a series of holes, the strap can be screwed, nailed, or embedded in mortar to anchor it to a section of the roof structure. After securing the metal strap, installers can conceal it from sight by applying traditional mortar bed. The mortar used to join the finial with adjacent ridge tiles effectively conceals the strap, resulting in a seamless and neat appearance.

    Dry fixing:

Another approach to affixing finials to the roof involves the dry fixing method. This technique involves using a specific manufacturer's dry fixing system, typically incorporating brackets or alternative mechanical fasteners to attach ridge tiles and finials to the roof without the use of mortar. If you are considering a dry fix ridge system, please get in touch with us to determine if this finial design can be adapted to be compatible with your chosen system.
