Eagle weathervane supplied on a double arch 90 degree ridge
- Description
This copper verdigris eagle weathervane with verdigris patina is a one of a kind focal point that adds beautiful detail to the roof. It's a work of art, sure, but it also works beautifully, with the eagle turning in the direction of the wind. The terracotta colour of the standard ridge tile fitting is not the only colour or finish option offered, check out other colours available
The total height is 39 inches (99cm), the ridge base is 12 inches (296 mm) in length and 9 inches (225 mm) in width and set at a 45 degree angle.
Why choose this weathervane over one that can be mounted with a bracket?
The drilling of holes and attachment of brackets to the roof or within the roof space required for conventional installations raises the possibility of water ingress into the roof in the long run. This eagle weathervane, on the other hand can be easily attached to the roof with mortar. The weathervane also has a sturdy metal strap that can be used as a mechanical fix fitting. This adjustable strap can be unwound and shortened to fit your needs, it also features a variety of screw, nail, and attachment points, making it ideal for fastening to various parts of your roof. When securing the ridge base with mortar, the metal strap can be neatly hidden from view
Eagle ridge weathervanes are available to customers for adornment on a wide variety of roof types, including gable ends, hip ends, houses, cottages, sheds, workshops, summer houses, and more. And because of their adaptability, these weathervanes can be placed anywhere from the rooftop to the garden as a decorative accent that draws the eye.
- How to fit and install
There are several ways to install roof finials, as outlined below:
Traditional mortar bedding:
Roof finials can be installed following the same method used for ridge tiles, utilising standard mortar bedding. In cases where the finial is tall or heavy, or if enhanced stability is desired, an additional mechanical fix method can be employed alongside the mortar bed installation.
Mechanical fixing strap and mortar bedding:
For this type of install, a galvanized metal strap is included, discreetly fastened to the underside of the finial ridge base during manufacturing. This durable and flexible metal strap can be adjusted in length by cutting it down to size. Featuring a series of holes, the strap can be screwed, nailed, or embedded in mortar to anchor it to a section of the roof structure. After securing the metal strap, installers can conceal it from sight by applying traditional mortar bed. The mortar used to join the finial with adjacent ridge tiles effectively conceals the strap, resulting in a seamless and neat appearance.
Dry fixing:
Another approach to affixing finials to the roof involves the dry fixing method. This technique involves using a specific manufacturer's dry fixing system, typically incorporating brackets or alternative mechanical fasteners to attach ridge tiles and finials to the roof without the use of mortar. If you are considering a dry fix ridge system, please get in touch with us to determine if this finial design can be adapted to be compatible with your chosen system.
