  • Description

This polished copper labrador dog weathervane is a classy addition to any roof. Its shining copper finish makes it stand out as a distinctive and eye catching addition to your roof. This beautiful weathervane serves a practical purpose as well as adding to the aesthetic appeal by pointing in the direction of the wind.

The weathervane has a total height of 35.3 inches (90cm), with a ridge base that is 12 inches (296mm) in length and 9 inches (225mm) in width (at a 45 degree angle).

You may be wondering what the advantages of this weathervane are over the more common bracket installations.

If you use conventional brackets, you might have to drill holes in your roof or fasten fixtures to its interior, which could lead to leaks in the long run. In contrast, setting up this canine themed weathervane requires minimal effort and time. The fitting's double arch 45 degree ridge base allows for hassle free mortar installation on your roof, where it will provide a watertight seal. A mechanically fixed fitting in the form of an adaptable metal strap is also included. This strong and malleable strap can be trimmed to size and then nailed, screwed, or otherwise affixed to the desired location on the roof. After the metal strap has been installed, it can be tucked out of sight beneath the ridge base's mortar bedding

Dog ridge weathervanes are available for gable ends, hip ends, houses, cottages, sheds, workshops, and summer houses, among other roof styles. In addition to being an attractive addition to any rooftop, this structure can also be placed in the garden. This weathervane is a great way to enhance the curb appeal of your home by adding an eye catching focal point to your roof.

  • How to fit and install

There are several ways to install roof finials, as outlined below:

    Traditional mortar bedding:

Roof finials can be installed following the same method used for ridge tiles, utilising standard mortar bedding. In cases where the finial is tall or heavy, or if enhanced stability is desired, an additional mechanical fix method can be employed alongside the mortar bed installation.

Mechanical fixing strap and mortar bedding:

For this type of install, a galvanized metal strap is included, discreetly fastened to the underside of the finial ridge base during manufacturing. This durable and flexible metal strap can be adjusted in length by cutting it down to size. Featuring a series of holes, the strap can be screwed, nailed, or embedded in mortar to anchor it to a section of the roof structure. After securing the metal strap, installers can conceal it from sight by applying traditional mortar bed. The mortar used to join the finial with adjacent ridge tiles effectively conceals the strap, resulting in a seamless and neat appearance.

    Dry fixing:

Another approach to affixing finials to the roof involves the dry fixing method. This technique involves using a specific manufacturer's dry fixing system, typically incorporating brackets or alternative mechanical fasteners to attach ridge tiles and finials to the roof without the use of mortar. If you are considering a dry fix ridge system, please get in touch with us to determine if this finial design can be adapted to be compatible with your chosen system.
