  • Description

A steel boxing hares weathervane can be positioned in a variety of ways on different roof angles thanks to its ridge tile fitting and the variety of angles the base can be supplied in. Steel in construction, this weathervane does double duty as both a practical instrument and an eye catching ornament for your rooftop. The direction of the wind can be visually determined by the movement of the boxing hares weathervane figure. While terracotta is the default colour for the ridge tile, we also provide a number of other colour options.

Why not just use a bracket to mount the weathervane?

It's crucial that the roof be watertight. Installers may be hesitant to make any permanent modifications to the roof or the structure's interior. However, mounting this boxing hares weathervane requires no special tools or expertise. To ensure a smooth and trouble free installation of the roof finial, the ridge tile fitting can be firmly attached to the roof with mortar. The weathervane can be mechanically fixed in place using the metal strap provided as an additional. This sturdy strap is simple to cut to size and secure with screws, nails, or by incorporating it into the roof itself. Once the metal strap is fastened in place, it can be hidden out of sight during the ridge base installation

These boxing hares ridge weathervanes come on a range of ridge fittings, allowing customers to find the perfect fit for their gable ends, houses, buildings, cottages, sheds, workshops, and summer homes. Its adaptability even extends to the garden, where it can be used as a fascinating ornament. It's a fantastic chance to add some eye catching design elements to your roof.

  • How to fit and install

There are several ways to install roof finials, as outlined below:

    Traditional mortar bedding:

Roof finials can be installed following the same method used for ridge tiles, utilising standard mortar bedding. In cases where the finial is tall or heavy, or if enhanced stability is desired, an additional mechanical fix method can be employed alongside the mortar bed installation.

Mechanical fixing strap and mortar bedding:

For this type of install, a galvanized metal strap is included, discreetly fastened to the underside of the finial ridge base during manufacturing. This durable and flexible metal strap can be adjusted in length by cutting it down to size. Featuring a series of holes, the strap can be screwed, nailed, or embedded in mortar to anchor it to a section of the roof structure. After securing the metal strap, installers can conceal it from sight by applying traditional mortar bed. The mortar used to join the finial with adjacent ridge tiles effectively conceals the strap, resulting in a seamless and neat appearance.

    Dry fixing:

Another approach to affixing finials to the roof involves the dry fixing method. This technique involves using a specific manufacturer's dry fixing system, typically incorporating brackets or alternative mechanical fasteners to attach ridge tiles and finials to the roof without the use of mortar. If you are considering a dry fix ridge system, please get in touch with us to determine if this finial design can be adapted to be compatible with your chosen system.
