  • Description

To improve the look of your roof, we recommend this steel boxing hares weathervane. It's a beautiful and unique finishing touch that will make your home look more refined. The direction of the wind can be determined by watching the direction in which the boxing hares spin on the weathervane.

This weathervane is designed to be easily mounted on the top of a square tile roof. Mortar installation of the fitting on the roof avoids the need for drilling holes or fastening brackets, both of which can weaken the roof. The 12" (30cm) square ridge base with a height of 11" (28cm) ensures stability and makes assembly a breeze.

The ridge tile fitting is available in the standard colour of terracotta, but other colours and finishes are available upon request. The weathervane also has a mechanical fix fitting, a metal strap that can be uncoiled and cut to size for extra safety and security during installation. This adjustable strap is strong enough to be screwed or nailed into the roof, giving you a sense of security. Traditional mortar bed methods can be used to conceal the metal strap during the ridge base installation.

These boxing hare ridge weathervanes are adaptable and can be set up on a wide variety of roofs, including but not limited to square roofs, double hip roofs, pyramid roofs, towers, and flat roofs. They are also attractive enough for ornamental use that they can be placed in a garden or other outdoor setting. This steel boxing hares weathervane is a striking and eye catching addition to any roof, adding both aesthetic value and practicality.

  • How to fit and install

There are several ways to install roof finials, as outlined below:

    Traditional mortar bedding:

Roof finials can be installed following the same method used for ridge tiles, utilising standard mortar bedding. In cases where the finial is tall or heavy, or if enhanced stability is desired, an additional mechanical fix method can be employed alongside the mortar bed installation.

Mechanical fixing strap and mortar bedding:

For this type of install, a galvanized metal strap is included, discreetly fastened to the underside of the finial ridge base during manufacturing. This durable and flexible metal strap can be adjusted in length by cutting it down to size. Featuring a series of holes, the strap can be screwed, nailed, or embedded in mortar to anchor it to a section of the roof structure. After securing the metal strap, installers can conceal it from sight by applying traditional mortar bed. The mortar used to join the finial with adjacent ridge tiles effectively conceals the strap, resulting in a seamless and neat appearance.

    Dry fixing:

Another approach to affixing finials to the roof involves the dry fixing method. This technique involves using a specific manufacturer's dry fixing system, typically incorporating brackets or alternative mechanical fasteners to attach ridge tiles and finials to the roof without the use of mortar. If you are considering a dry fix ridge system, please get in touch with us to determine if this finial design can be adapted to be compatible with your chosen system.
